ABOUT THE CAMP
Culture Capital™ is a week-long, hands-on entrepreneurship experience for elementary students. Campers learn how to turn their ideas and talents into real, money-making businesses — building confidence, creativity, and financial know-how along the way. The week wraps up with a student-run Pop-Up Market, where campers sell products made through Culture Ethnic Shop to real customers at the Harrison Museum of African American Celebrations of African Cultures festival.
WHAT CAMPERS EXPERIENCE
• Fun, interactive lessons on entrepreneurship — from big ideas to real business skills
• Visits from local business owners sharing their stories, products, and activities
• Hands-on prep for the student-led Pop-Up Market
• A Business Start-Up bag of tools and resources, plus their $25 investment fee returned as seed money upon completing the week
WHY IT MATTERS
Roanoke City's low-income youth face real barriers to exposure in business, finance, and entrepreneurship — skills rarely introduced in elementary school. Culture Capital™ meets students where they are and gives them a culturally affirming, real-world experience that builds both confidence and competency, with a scalable model designed to grow across future summers.
